FAQ

I've never hired a DJ before.  How should I choose a DJ Service?
One of the best methods for choosing services necessary for your event is to ask your friends and relatives for referrals.  If a company has been around for a while, its reputation will speak for itself.  If possible, talk to somebody who has previously contracted with this service or ask to go to a performance.  Don’t select a service merely by price.

What makes you unique?  Why should I choose your service?

There are many outstanding reasons to hire Absolute Music DJ Service:  our way of standing in front of the equipment so we can interact with the guests if you want, our great mix of music, our reliability.  What makes us unique, though, is our desire to work with you to provide you with just the right blend of music for your event.

Time Questions:
Will the DJ show up on time?  What time will my DJ arrive?  Will the equipment be set up before my guests arrive?
Our DJs arrive at each function at least an hour and a half before the contracted start time.  This gives them plenty of time to set up the equipment and test it out before your guests arrive.
When does the DJ's time begin?
The DJ will start playing music when the guests begin to arrive, unless other arrangements have been made.
What if I have a string quartet, harpist, etc. play during the cocktail hour?
If you are not planning to use our service for cocktail/dinner music we will book your contract at our hourly rate.  This way our DJ will have all of the equipment set up and ready to go before the guests arrive and will start the music at the time you designate.
How far in advance do we need to reserve a date?
Unfortunately there is no easy way to determine this as each year the “busy” days seem to change.   We recommend you get all of your information gathered and make a decision as early as possible. However, never feel that it is too late to call to check your date.
What if we need more music than we contracted for?  Will the DJ stay past the contracted time?
Our DJs are more than happy to stay as long as you’d like them to.  If you and your guests are having a great time and would like to keep the music going, just let the DJ know about a half hour before the contracted end time that you’d like him to continue.  Payment for the additional time should be made at the end of the evening.  The price rate for additional time is stated in your contract.

Payment Questions:
Do you require a deposit?

Yes.  We ask that $100.00 (one hundred dollars) of the fee be used as a non-refundable deposit when you sign the contract.
When is our final payment due?
The balance of the fee is due two weeks before the party but may be paid earlier or in installments, if you like.
Are there any travel charges?
There is no travel charge for any job within a 30 mile radius of Des Moines (we include Ames in this category).  If your party is being held outside of this radius, there is a nominal travel charge.
Do you accept credit cards?
No, not at this time.  We accept checks, cash or money orders.
Do you provide a contract?
Yes.  When you call to book we get the information needed and send you two copies of the contract.  We ask that you sign one and send it back with the deposit.  You should be sure to get a written contract from any vendor you do business with - it eliminates any problems later.

Music Questions:
What music will be played?
Each event is unique and we choose our music accordingly.  This topic is part of our discussion at the planning meeting and you may have as much or as little input into the music selection as you choose.
How current is your music and how far back does it go?
From Big Band to current hits, we have it all.
Will the DJ take requests?
Yes, if you want them to.  We have a request book we can make available to your guests so they can choose some of the music.

Miscellaneous Questions:
Is your DJ service insured?
Yes, we carry liability insurance.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you find it necessary to cancel your event, we ask that you do so in writing as far in advance as possible.  We will hold your deposit for one year.  It may be applied to another event.
What will the DJ wear?
The DJs normal attire is a full dress tuxedo but he will dress according to your needs - from formal to casual.  You let us know at our planning meeting.
Will the DJ act as the Master of Ceremonies?
Yes, unless you request otherwise.  Our DJs will make all of the announcements and keep things moving smoothly.
